[Infographic]: Qualifying Income Needed to Buy in 10 U.S. Cities

Real estate is local. The income needed to buy a home in Portland, Maine is vastly different from what’s needed to buy in Los Angeles.

Using data from NAR Research’s fourth quarter Metropolitan Median Area Prices and Affordability report, this newly-created infographic takes a look at median price growth of single-family homes in 10 U.S. cities (over a two-year period) and the qualifying income needed to buy with a 10 percent downpayment.

According to the infographic, $79,778 in Boston puts you in a home. Or it allows you to buy more clam “chowdah” than you’ll ever need.
